Our story

In the 18th century, weavers from the Picardie region of northern France settled in the area, building a commune of 13 houses on what is now Picardy Place – naming it ”Picardy Village”, which later became known as "Little Picardy".

Originally the dress shop “Norma Anne” in 1929, the Little Picardy site has had various uses through the decades From Astra Radio shop in the 70s, to Chapps Bar in the 80s, it was established as a home for the LGBTQ+ community, which was continued by its successors Fusion and Café Kudos. Café Habana, a thriving LGBTQ+ bar and entertainment venue, operated there from 1999. The team behind Little Picardy are committed to keeping this space inclusive, safe and welcoming for all.

Fast forward to August 2024, and the moniker of Little Picardy has been reborn into a neighbourhood bar and cafe, with a nod to its French origin. The facade of the building has been restored to its original 1929 design, and re-integrated at ground level with the neighbouring Edinburgh Playhouse.

By day, our own Little Picardy will serve locally roasted hand-crafted barista coffee, freshly baked pastries, healthy salads, sandwiches and small plates. High-quality and thoughtfully sourced local ingredients are expertly balanced with fast and efficient service from our chefs. In the evening, Little Picardy will, again, welcome all – the perfect place for after work drinks or a light meal before visiting the theatre.

Our Team

Our dedicated Little Picardy team look forward to providing a warm welcome to all. Expert knowledge of our fresh, locally sourced ingredients is balanced with efficient and friendly service from the entire team.
